Which Veterans are eligible for benefits?

Whether one is considered entitled to “Veteran benefits” by federal, state or local governments depends entirely upon the Veteran benefit or program being applied for. First one must prove they are a vet and show they meet the eligibility requirements for the benefit.

By filing a claim with the United States Veterans Administration (VA), and receiving a finding, will provide the basis for many benefits.

Filing a claim with the VA is most important thing a Veteran can do. Filing a claim just before you separate from duty, or shortly after, and using a VA approved Veterans Service Organization can ease the process. Waiting years to file, may cause you needles concern and headaches.

Veteran Service OfficersAll local Veterans Service Officers (VSO) listed are located in the San Diego VA Benefits Administration Building at the address directly above.

We also have a County Veterans Service Office and there are others in the county. Call the County VSO to get other locations.

Additionally the the VA now has representative at Naval Base San Diego, call the Fleet & Family Support Center at (619) 556-7404 for more information.

It is highly suggested that you contact a VSO to find answers to your questions. Why? These individuals are are fully-accredited by the VA and and are your advocate. Because of their knowledge they can make the the system seem simple for you.

Veteran Services Officers work for the Veterans Service Organizations listed and they have resources within the Veterans Administration to get you the right answer to your question if they do not already know the answer! You do not have to be a member of these organization to use the services provided by them!
